Although Katahdin is one of our most popular trips, we also provide guided hikes to many of the other mountains within Baxter State Park, Maine. Below you'll find our featured mountain hikes - take your pick! Just be sure to contact us prior to booking your epic outdoor experience!
At 5,267 feet tall Katahdin stands as Maine's highest mountain. Do not be fooled by the majestic beauty of this mountain from afar; she is a wild and rugged beast of a climb!
Katahdin consists of 3 major peaks: Hamlin Peak, Pamola Peak, and Baxter Peak (recognized summit). There are several trails to choose from when planning a Katahdin climb. We can tailor your day to best suit your group's interests and needs. Be aware that there are no "easy" routes to the summit!

Consisting of 3 unique peaks, The Traveler's Loop is a worthy contender for "ranger favorite" in Baxter State Park. The 3 peaks, and the ridge that connects them, are the remnants of an ancient volcano that imploded long ago. Due to the unique geological features in this area you will be amazed by the vast diversity of plants, landscapes, and fungi.
In my opinion, this hike is just as intense as Katahdin, and offers much more in way of interesting landscape. There is a bit of up and down in elevation gain with this hike, so consider this before booking. But with less crowds and more wildlife viewing opportunities, you're sure to have a surreal experience on this breath-taking scenic ridge walk!
Things You'll Need:
In Your Pack:
*There is an option to only hike North Traveler. If interested, please contact us directly as the daily fee is different.
**The best way to access this trailhead is by taking the Patten exit off of I-95 and following the signs to Baxter State Park's Northern entrance. Depending on where you are coming from, this may add an extra hour and a half to your drive.

At 4,151 feet tall North Brother is one of two 4,000 ft mountains inside Baxter State Park. This mountain offers stunning views of the western side of Katahdin and overlooks The Klondike, the least explored area of the Park.
Though not as intense as Katahdin, North Brother will still deliver a rugged workout due to its steep elevation gains. With less crowds and more wildlife viewing opportunities, you're sure to have a blast on this daring climb!

At 3,489 feet tall Doubletop is one of Baxter State Park's most underrated mountains. This mountain offers 360 degrees of spectacular views of the western side of Katahdin as well as the lands that lie to the west of the Park's boundaries.
There are two approaches to this mountain: quick and steep or slow and gradual. You can pick which one you'd prefer. If you're not sure, I am always eager to listen to your goals for the day and make a recommendation based on what you tell me!
I suppose I should mention that this mountain is also a strong contender for "ranger favorite". Book today to see why!

At 3,434 feet tall OJI offers a pleasant walk beside a stream before beginning a steady incline to West Peak, the mountain's gorgeous lookout point. From there, we will head up to the wooded summit for some soul-nourishing forest bathing and reflection.
As a group we can decide where we'd like to spend more of our time between the lookout and the summit, but either one will provide the comfort only true wilderness can. This is an excellent intermediate hike for those looking to prepare for larger mountains such as Katahdin or The Traveler's Loop.

At 3,122 feet tall South Turner offers a private, pristine wilderness climb. You'll pass by the powerful Roaring Brook, watch moose dine on aquatic vegetation*, and enjoy 360 degrees of stunning views! The bald summit is perfect for self-reflection as you gaze into both of Katahdin's easterly basins.
This is an excellent intermediate hike for those looking to prepare for larger mountains such as Katahdin or The Traveler's Loop. It's also a great choice for families with older children who want a well-rounded wilderness experience without being overly sore the next day. Because the trailhead for South Turner shares a parking lot with a Katahdin trailhead, booking well in advance may be required. See below.
Things You'll Need:
In Your Pack:
*Moose are wild animals. We do not have control of where they go or when they do. As such, we cannot guarantee moose sightings.
**Because the trailhead for this hike is out of Roaring Brook (a Katahdin trailhead) it MUST be booked at least 4 months in advance to accommodate Baxter State Park's access policies. Special circumstances may apply. Contact us to find out more.
